Year 6

Welcome to the start of a new school year! We hope you have enjoyed a wonderful, restful summer and the class are ready to start Year 6 refreshed and enthusiastic to learn. There are lots of exciting things to look forward to this year, despite being a challenging year, we will have lots of fun - I am sure of it! 

 

The Autumn Curriculum statement will be posted shortly and our class page is regularly updated with photographs and videos of our learning journey through year 6 so please check in on us from time to time to see what's happening in our class. 

 

It it has been great getting to know you all these first few weeks and I can see what a fantastic class we have already! A homework update letter was sent out this evening to inform you of our homework schedule. Please remember that in these books there will be lots of elements to the year 6 curriculum that have not been covered yet, pupils should just try their best to do what they can, each day we go through it together and gradually they will begin to feel more confident as we progress through the term. 

 

Monday is Reading homework, Tuesday is Maths and Wednesday is Grammar. Children will also be given a spelling rule and set times tables on TT Rockstars on a Monday  to complete each week by the following Monday. This will start from next week onwards. We do also have Maths Prodigy which the children are set up on- this is great practice for Maths in all areas and there will be some allocated time in school to use this but pupils are able to access it from home. Parent letters and logins will be sent home shortly with more information. 

 

I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead with our Year 6 pupils!

We must remember to carefully observe what we are drawing and not just look at what our pencil is drawing, or what we think we see! We then developed this skill further by studying the proportion of the human face. Some fantastic progress was made in the lesson and our work quickly became more life-like. Well done!

As part of arts week we've been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. This week we've studied the artwork of Peter Thorpe. He creates space-themed abstract paintings with leftover paint. Have a look at some of our work below - they're fantastic!

We've loved having our visitors from Bilbao over this week and had so much fun on Tuesday afternoon learning some new dance moves! Buen Viaje de revuelto a todos!

What a couple of weeks year 6 have had preparing for the Scholastic Book Fair! We have researched and designed logos, written persuasive letters and letters of application for the job roles on offer at the fair. Year 6 led the browsing sessions on Wednesday afternoon which gave our children a chance to preview what's on offer this Friday. I am so proud of the whole class!
