Year 2 Autumn Term
What are we reading in Year 2 this term?
Please find below the Year 2 Autumn Curriculum Statement, detailing what we will be learning about this term.
Sudley House- October 2021
Year Two had a fantastic time visiting Sudley House. In History we have been learning about George and Emma Holt, so it was fascinating to see where they had lived and to learn more about their lives.
Maths- Bonds to 10
Year 2 have loved using different equipment to help them revise number bonds to 10. We have also used the equipment to help us write related subtraction facts too!
In Computing Year Two we have started learning about algorithms. To start this topic, we completed a practical activity which involved us creating a pictorial algorithm for a Lego model. We then had a go at following other people’s algorithms to see if we could correctly complete their model.
Football with Everton Soccer Schools
Today we were lucky enough to have two coaches come into school from Everton Soccer Schools to help us practice our football skills. We played lots of 3v3 games, which allowed us to practise our attacking and defending skills.
Art and Design- Formal Elements of Art
This term Year 2 have been studying the formal elements of Art and Design. As part of this topic, we explored taking rubbings of different textures. We then looked at a technique called ‘Frottage’, which was originally created by the artist Max Ernst. This technique involves using rubbings of different textures to create images. We used our rubbings to create landscapes. Below is a photograph of our work on display in our classroom. I think you will agree they look very effective!
Year 2 have also looked at repeating patterns during this art topic. We created different repeating patterns by dipping different objects in paint. One of the patterns we looked at was an ABB pattern, which we created using cotton buds dipped into two different colours of paint.
