Year 1 Spring Term

Please find below the Year 1 Spring Curriculum Statement, detailing what we will be learning about this term.

What are we reading in Year 1 this term?

Safer Internet Day – Tuesday 8th February.
For safer internet day we discussed how we can be safe and SMART online. We looked at how we can use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. For our task today, we created our own posters to promote safe and positive use of digital technology.

Maths Number Day – Friday 4th February
To celebrate Maths Number Day 2022 we completed different number challenges such as counting in 2’s, a Sudoku 4 x 4 puzzle and finding more and less of a given number.

Science – Animal Diets – Tuesday 8th February
In today’s lesson we looked at different animals and their diets. We sorted animals into the correct group (herbivore, carnivore and omnivore) and matched up split sentences to make them correct.

Mental Health Week. W.C 7th February 2022. – Theme: Growing Together.
To start the week we introduced a ROAR rainbow/thermometer in class to help us display and discuss how we are feeling each day. We have also created our own positivity jar, in this jar we each wrote a positive note such as ‘I am brave’ ‘I am loved’ and ‘I am a good friend’. When we are feeling sad, we can pick out a note and read it to make us feel better. We also completed different tasks and learnt how to keep our mind, body and heart healthy. We have been encouraged this week to consider how we have grown and how we can help others to grow!

English – Read to Write.
In English (Read to Write) we have completed different tasks and activities based on the book ‘The Last Wolf’ by Mini Grey. We have written our own hunting narrative with our own characters with inspiration from ‘The Last Wolf’. We are now currently writing a recipe for a hungry animal!
