PSHE AND RHSE

Welcome to the PSHE and RHSE Curriculum Page.

Intent

On this page you will find information relating to PHSE and RHSE at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Primary School.

Our mission is “to inspire children to achieve their full potential in the living love of Christ.”

We aim to support pupils through their spiritual, moral, social emotional and physical development and to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of growing up in today’s world.

Please find below relevant information and documents relating to the PSHE/RSHE curriculum we follow at St Anthony of Padua school.

PHSE

An amendment to the Children and Social Work Act 2017 made Relationships and Health Education at primary; and Relationships, Sex, and Health Education at secondary, statutory subjects. Therefore, all schools must provide a curriculum that is broadly based, balanced and meets the needs of all pupils. Under section 78 of the Education Act 2002 and the Academies Act 2010, a PSHE curriculum:

  •  Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society, and
  • Prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

The DfE guidance on Relationships, Health and Sex Education for governing bodies can be seen here

Here at St Anthony of Padua Primary School, we have been following the Jigsaw Scheme for PSHE work. Jigsaw brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a weekly programme.  We are confident that the Jigsaw Programme covers all aspects of Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) within the context of a full PSHE programme in an age-appropriate way. Should changes to these curriculum areas occur in the future, Jigsaw will provide its schools with materials to ensure all statutory duties are fulfilled.

RHSE

For RHSE we follow the Journey in Love programme recommended by the Archdiocese of Liverpool. RHSE is covered across the wider curriculum. Please see documents below for more information.
