Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 class page!

I've been delighted with the start the children have made since the new school year.

We have an exciting time coming up and I hope you enjoy following our learning on our class page.

Mr D Stead

Last week, Paul Delaney visited school to hold poetry workshops with year 5 and 6. He read poems and then showed the children different ways of creating their own poem. The children then had the opportunity to write a poem about 'being thankful' which they were then able to perform to the class.

I was incredibly impressed with the standard of the poems and I know the children enjoyed the workshop and the chance to work with a published poet.

A huge well done to all those children who participated in the Bikeability scheme at the beginning of the month. I know that the instructors were extremely impressed with  the childrens' behaviour and attitude, particularly on the first day when the weather was atrocious!

Year 5 Mannequin Challenge!

To finish our gymnastics unit I asked the children to perform their own sporting 'Mannequin Challenge.' I was incredibly impressed with the childrens' ability to perform a variety of sporting balances while demonstrating fantastic body tension for such a long time!

As part of our significant authors topic, the children made predictions about the next event in a story. The children then acted out their senario and performed them to the rest of the class.
